Burna Boy whose real name is Damini Ogulu is from Ahaoda, Rivers State, Nigeria. He was born in 1991 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State where he spent his childhood before his family relocated to Lagos State, in Nigeria. He has a Sister for whom he has boundless affection. He completed his Secondary School Education at Corona Secondary School.

Burna Boy’s debut studio album was released by Aristokrat Records on August 12, 2013. The album was titled L.I.F.E. It is pegged as the follow-up to his second mixtape, which he called Burn Identity (2011). L.I.F.E reportedly sold 40,000 CD copies on the first day of its release. Aristokrat Records later went on to sell the album’s marketing rights to prominent Nigerian Music Marketer Uba Pacific for a fee of ₦10 million. The album included among others, five popular singles like: “Yawa Dey”, “Tonight”, “Always Love You”, “Like to Party”, and “Run My Race.”

The Album is produced by Nigerian Music Producer Leriq and features guest appearances from popular musicians 2face Idibia, M.I, Timaya, Olamide, Reminisce and also Wizkid. Nigeria Entertainment Today ranked the album L.I.F.E number 10 on their list of the 12th best albums of the year 2013. The music of L.I.F.E is agreed to have been inspired by the music of Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade and also Bob Marley.

In 2014, Burna Boy left Aristokrat records and then went on to announce the creation of his own record label called Spaceship Entertainment in 2015.
